IOC Academic Policy

Academic Policy and Procedure:

Admission to Institute of Credit requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Students not maintaining a "C" average will be put on probation for 1 semester. If average is not brought up to standards, the student will have to reapply for admission after 12 months.

Attendance

The student's attention is especially directed to the following regulations:

  • Students are required to attend all classes as a part of the normal learning process.
  • To provide for illness and inevitable, legitimate business engagements that conflict with class attendance, no more than two absences are allowed in each ten session course. It should be clearly understood that this allowance is designed for emergency situations.
  • Students having schedule conflicts, causing the student to leave class early, will be responsible for clearing this with the appropriate instructor and for making up class work missed. Individual problems should be brought to the attention of the instructor and the Registrar.
  • With the approval of the instructor, students may be allowed to make up incomplete work caused by absences.
  • A certificate of completion cannot be released to a student with excessive absenteeism.

Class Hours

Instructors may reschedule classes due to schedule conflicts or bad weather. Semesters are ten (10) weeks in length, classes meeting once a week for three (3) hours. 1 clock hour = 55 minutes of instruction. One 15 minute break is scheduled per three (3) hour class.

Cancellations

IOC reserves the right to cancel any class with low enrollment.

Conduct

Students and faculty are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. The following list, while not limited to, include violations of the school's student conduct policy. Any student in violation may be denied registration or asked to withdraw from the school at any time, by action of the administration.

  • Destroying or damaging school property
  • Abusing any illegal drugs or alcohol
  • Cheating on a school examination
  • Engaging in any unlawful or improper action as described in the student information packet
  • Acting with disrespect toward a member of the school staff or another student

Any difficulties or problems should be reported to the staff person on duty. Phones, workstations/offices and copy machines are not for the use of students, except with permission of the on-site NACM Upstate New York or NACM Connect staff member.

Honor System

All students are on a honor system and are expected to conduct themselves accordingly. Anyone caught cheating will be immediately expelled from the school and be given an automatic "F" for the semester.

Satisfactory Progress Policy

Students are required to have a 2.0 or "C" average or higher in the course in which they have enrolled.
